Generations

"Only be careful, & watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children & to your children after them." Deuteronomy 4:9

I am so thankful today. I had a little cry yesterday as my mom left and Kurto went out of town for a ministry trip in Iowa. But today I am grateful & reflective. Aubrey Lynn looks a lot like my mom. We named her after my mom. Lynn means "pretty one". I think it is interesting that she not only inherited my mom's name but her features as well. Thinking about passing traits on to our children made me think upon God's word this morning. He desires us to pass on our spiritual inheritance as well. I feel that my childhood was a training ground in many ways. This week as I was exhausted and tired & did not have my routine of reading the Word I found myself washed in verses that were stored way back in the depths of my heart. When were they put there? Probably in Awanas when I was 6 or 7 memorizing verses or in grade school, or from my mom reading me Bible stories from my children's Bible. I now read that same Bible to Israel and soon to Aubrey Lynn. I enjoy teaching my children the importance and wonder of the scriptures. I desire to not let them "slip from their hearts". God warns us to do this. It is a command that comes with the fear of the Lord. I desire to give this gift to my children as my parents gave to me.
