Midwest thoughts

While out on a drive tonight before church I noted some very Missouri things that are still funny to me. For instance, the house on blue ridge that is literally painted from top to bottom like an American flag. Just like Orange County's association laws I'm sure. It also amused me that I could be enjoying a delicious Starbucks from Kansas & while driving into Missouri count five lamas before pulling into the church parking lot. Also to be noted the wonderful "buzzing noise" throughout the humid night air. They are called cicadas. It sounds like war of the worlds out tonight. I thought about gardening as well. In Missouri everyone mows their own yard. Even my 85 year old neighbor is out there in his overalls and hat. I don't think I ever saw anyone but my brother mow the lawn in California (thank you dad for those "it should only take about 15 minutes" chores). Tonight I saw speed limit signs on 4 lane highways of 35 miles per hour. Has anyone ever seen a signal on a fwy? Can you imagine a stop light at say Alicia Pkwy & LaPaz literally on the fwy? Welcome to Missouri we have them. Just a few random thoughts. I will have to post more of the wonderful "Show me" state later. Beautiful weather tonight. A balmy 86 degrees with 80 percent humidity. By the way... I didn't just misspell Missouri on my blog. That is the "correct" pronunciation if you are from here.

Wow, it is quite a culture shock from southern California, then (well, I'm sure it was at least initially). :) Thanks for sharing all of your adopted state's idiosyncrasies.

I think there are quirky things in every state. LOL. For instance... in NC. Highway 70. In California this would be more like a normal street. Not a highway. There are lights, stop signs, and shops you can turn into from this *highway*. Pretty funny! Now I am used to it, so I don't notice it much. ha ha.

I loved the Starbucks/ llama thing. Clever. I love encroaching suburbia.
